What Other Programs and Partners Work With Matterport?

Posted by Matt Lacey on

Matterport has established itself as the easiest way to create and share stunning digital twins of the built world. But the journey doesn’t stop with the reality capture. Matterport believes in the power of collaboration to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds and so have allowed other companies to use their platform to further innovate. Whilst simply creating a virtual tour is enough for many users, there is so much more functionality within the system that opens up a world of possibilities to Matterport users after they have captured a space. To help guide our customers through the downloadable assets, we created a guide that you can read here, but this article is about all the different third-party software, plug-ins and deliverables that you can utilise to take your digital twins to the next level. And with the Matterport Software Developer Kit being readily available, it’s amazing how regularly new innovations appear that integrate with Matterport’s data. And who knows what to come - if you’re a developer reading this, now is the time for you to use Matterport’s SDK and create the next built world innovation!

Autodesk

The OGs of Computer Aided Design have integrated their Autodesk cloud with Matterport to incorporate their powerful suite of features. The Autodesk Construction Cloud and Matterport integration enables construction teams to work more collaboratively and efficiently at every stage of a project. Delivering a clear look at job sites, digital twins allow teams to identify potential issues earlier and make well-informed decisions throughout.

Users can create, view, and collaborate on Issues directly within a Matterport digital twin of their project, or generate specific file types (.rvt, .ifc, .dwg, .xyz) from their model to share with stakeholders. Essentially, processes are streamlined, sharing is easier and communication is seamless between teams on a construction site, with one unified interface, backed up by the field data collected through Matterport.

AWS

Combining AWS with Matterport unleashes the true capability of the digital twin, connecting the real world with the digital in order to gain more insights and improve the running of any facility. With the AWS IoT TwinMaker Connector, developers can now leverage Matterport’s technology to combine existing data from multiple sources with real-world data to create a fully integrated digital twin. All of this is done in a fraction of the time—and at a fraction of the cost—of traditional means, giving customers unprecedented spatial data insights that help them manage their operations more efficiently than ever before.

Users can embed live data in your Matterport digital twin to gain valuable insights and make informed decisions to optimize operations by connecting existing IoT, video, and enterprise application data. If a sensors shows some equipment isn’t working properly, operatives can be guided to the exact location and access the documents to repair it.

The bottom line is that with AWS and Matterport you can increase equipment uptime and maintain peak performance by discovering trends and monitoring predictive maintenance analytics.

Procore

The Procore and Matterport partnership paves a path to a more efficient and innovative construction project management solution. By merging the leading spatial data platform with the construction industry s premier project management software, they have created an integration that ensures seamless collaboration among all project stakeholders.

Procore is well known in the construction industry as a management platform and with this partnership users can bring the visual site context of Matterport digital twins to every phase in the construction lifecycle. Procore creates one source of truth that can be used for all stakeholders from architects to main and sub-contrators and is used from preconstruction right through to handover which is why documenting milestones with digital twins can increase oversight even more.

With the joint integration, general contractors, specialty contractors, owners and other collaborators (such as architects or engineers) can work together effortlessly throughout the entire project lifecycle. The integration allows for easy upload of MatterPak and BIM files to Procore Documents as well as the addition of Requests for Information (RFIs), Observations, or
Coordination Issues directly within the Matterport digital twin. This means that every stakeholder can gain clear visual context, making issue resolution faster and more efficient.

RSET

RSET promise that with their software you can do more with your digital twins and they deliver on this. You can run a variety of scenarios, from the practical such as putting out a fire in the space, to fun stuff like adding a horde of zombies!

All you have to do is download .obj mesh (included in the Matterpak), feed it into RSET, and then you can walk or fly through it in 3D, with tools to show different viewpoints for law enforcement reconstructions or create scenarios for training with lots of customisation available.

And they offer a free trial! Just sign up here (and drop us an email at info@survey-tech.co.uk so that we can provide support.)

MPSkin

We first became aware of MPSkin when we watched a tutorial video of how to combine drone visualisations with Matterport models, and with a bit of research we realised how much potential it had to customise Matterport models.

MPskin used the Matterport Software Developer Kit to create its proprietary content management system that enables its customers to modify digital twins in as many creative ways as they can imagine. Virtual experience creators can tailor virtual experiences with a customizable menu, background music that includes a volume slider, color filters, extendable Mattertags, and more. Real estate agents can virtually stage properties with 3D furniture, museums can swap photographs and paintings from walls, and up-and-coming artists can stage virtual exhibitions.

MPSkin has seen significant growth in the tourism sector as digital twins act as virtual showcases for visitor attractions and accommodation, and it has seen adoption in lots of adjacent sectors such as heritage. Marketing agencies, hotels and museum curators are all finding that it’s a great way to drive interest online and therefore secure bookings.

E-Building

The concept of the ‘golden thread’ of building documentation is an important one when we think about how we create and use buildings. With E-Building you gain even more flexibility in how you organise and enrich the data of your Matterport models.

e-Building extends the potential of Matterport, providing a document manager to archive and share information aggregated around digital twins, as well as features to create 3D virtual tours enriched with multimedia. As a Matterport Platform Partner, e-Building helps its customers make digital twins more immersive with music, photos, videos, PDFs, BIM models, web pages, sensors and real-time cameras, drone models, and Google Maps.

VRPM

VRPM call themselves ‘the worlds number 1 Matterport Virtual Staging  &  Virtual Renovation partner’, which is no mean feat! Virtual staging is an incredibly useful tool to allow people to visualise how a building will look in the future, it can be the difference between someone signing a large commercial lease or not, and can create vibrant, functional spaces where they currently stand empty. That way, people can see the potential of a space and how it can be used!

VRPM have scanned and delivered over 15000 properties. Their clients range from residential lettings, student  accommodation, luxury homes and enormous commercial spaces. They can handle everything for you, editing the panoramas, changing floors and even adding walls in as little as 48 hours.

Treedis

Treedis and Matterport are at the forefront of Industry 4.0. Together, they are integrating cutting-edge technologies such as immersive AR and VR training, enhanced safety protocols, remote and field employee support and collaboration tools, digitized SOPs, and seamless IoT integration into everyday workflows. The result? A 30% improvement in performance metrics across a more connected workforce.
